The Mutual Exchange route to moving home

Published: Wednesday 17 January 2024

Are you a current Stockport Homes or Housing Association tenant?

Are you looking to move home but want to retain your social tenancy?

Are you struggling to obtain a property move via Homechoice due to a low number of bidding points?

The Mutual Exchange route could be for you!

142 Mutual Exchanges were completed from April to December 2023 – more tenants move by Mutual Exchange than by Homechoice Transfer

A mutual exchange is where you exchange your home with another Council, Stockport Homes or Housing Association tenant. Tenants with a secure or assured tenancy can apply via the new Homechoice Customer Housing Portal:

www.homechoicestockport.org (further information available here)

The Customer Housing Portal contains an automatic property matching facility and enables direct communication with other registered tenants to help you identify and secure a direct 2-way property match

Struggling to find a direct 2-way property match? A multiple-property swap might be the answer.

Check out multi-exchange property adverts on our Facebook page:

Need help completing your application on the Homechoice website?

Published: Thursday 28 September 2023

We have sent letters and emails out to some customers who have recently registered on the Homechoice website. If you have received a letter or email saying that you have not fully completed the application process and your application is currently showing as ‘Application Incomplete’ please see the steps you need to take below. Please note: This means you will not be able to bid for any properties you see advertised through Homechoice.

If this is an oversight and you wish to make an application or complete your application, please see the steps below:

  • Log in to the Homechoice website: https://www.homechoicestockport.org/
  • Use your registration reference number, memorable date, and password to access the online housing application form
  • Complete all relevant sections of the online housing application form (please see the ‘Help’ section on the Homechoice website)
  • Upload any supporting documents as requested
  • Submit for processing

Note: If you are unable to locate your log in details, you can reset these by using the option ‘I have forgotten my login reference, memorable date / password.

If you do not have access to the internet or you would like additional support to complete the application form, we are holding several Customer Drop-In sessions on the following dates:

Date Time Venue

Monday 2nd October 9am to 3pm SHG Cornerstone Reception

Tuesday 3rd October 4pm to 7pm SHG Cornerstone Reception

Wednesday 4th October 9am to 3pm SHG Cornerstone Reception

Thursday 5th October 4pm to 7pm SHG Cornerstone Reception

Additional support will also be available from Monday 9th to Friday 13th October from 10am to 3pm in Cornerstone Reception.

When you arrive at Reception, we will ask you to produce the letter or email you received, so we can ensure we are focussing support on customers who have been invited to the drop-in sessions only.

Please also bring along any relevant documents to support your housing application, for example, Child Benefit, Immigration, Medical, Employment.

While we are keen to ensure that everyone who wishes to register can do so, it is important that you understand that incomplete applications will be reviewed four-weeks from the date of the letter / email. If your application form is still showing as incomplete at that point, it will be assumed that you no longer wish to apply, and your application will be closed.

However, please rest assured that if you wish to re-apply at any point in the future, you can do this by logging back into the Homechoice website and following the steps listed above.

If you have any queries, please email homechoice@stockporthomes.org or contact the One Number Team on 0161 217 6016 (option 2).
